This week, Break The Clasp, the debut album from LAE — the Montreal-based psychedelic post-hardcore quintet fronted by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day — is finally available in its deluxe double-12” vinyl format via The Compound Recs and Battleground Records. A live video of the LP-opener, “Sexy Sadie,” filmed at the band’s first show early this month, has also been released.

LAE’s thirteen-song, nearly hour-long Break The Clasp was recorded in full analog in main songwriter/guitarist Marc Lucas Ablasou’s woodshop in Montreal by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day, who provides lead vocals to the album, the lineup completed by Ronald Jean-Gilles, Serge Nakauchi Pelletier and Stephane Desgroseilliers. Captured on vintage 1970s equipment utilizing a range of guitars, basses, drums, accordion, trumpet, saws, organs, pianos, electronics and a multitude of vocal styles, the band creates a mystical incredibly heartbreaking four-part storyline of Life, Love, Hope and Death, mastered by Austin at his own Austin Enterprises (Converge, Burn The Priest/Lamb of God, Deadguy), and resembling a Martian relative of Three Mile Pilot, Swans, Slint, Pink Floyd, Shellac and Mogwai.

LAE began performing live earlier this month, having played their first show to a receptive hometown crowd in Montreal which was captured on video. A sample of the performance has been released in the form of “Sexy Sadie,” the first song from the set, and opening track from Break The Clasp, showcasing the sad, explosive and forceful delivery of the band. Heavy Blog Is Heavy is now playing the video, showcasing the band online live for the first time, offering, “It’s very downtuned, heavy rock, and has a sludge vibe to it, which fit vocalist Steve Austin‘s unique pipes well…”

Watch “Sexy Sadie” live courtesy of Heavy Blog Is Heavy at THIS LOCATION.

LAE’s first official video, created by director David Hall of Handshake Inc. (Today Is The Day, Brutal Truth, Pyrrhon) for the song “To Give You The Stars Above,” is playing at Exclaim! Magazine HERE.

Co-released between The Compound Recs and Battleground Records on CD and digital platforms late last year, LAE’s Break The Clasp is this available this Friday, September 25th in a deluxe vinyl version.

The beautiful package showcases the otherworldly cover art by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label, etc.) and sees the album pressed on two slabs of 180-gram black vinyl with poly-lined inner sleeves, a full-color gatefold cardboard outer sleeve with front and back cover spot varnish including a free digital download.

Orders for the 2xLP and CD versions of Break The Clasp are now available via The Compound Recs HERE and Battleground HERE, and the record is streaming and available digitally RIGHT HERE.

A new video for the song “Sister” and additional live performances from LAE will be announced in the coming days.

Steve Austin recently scored the upcoming Hollywood release of Addiction: A 60’s Love Story. Directed by Tate Steinseck (Face Off) and set for release through Breaking Glass Pictures, Addiction: A 60’s Love Story takes place in New York City, in 1968. Austin created a dark, afflicted, psychedelic soundtrack to match the film’s delivery. Additionally, several of Austin’s prior recordings were worked into the soundtrack, including the emotional “Broken Knee” ballad from LAE’s Break The Clasp and several Today Is The Day tracks. Addiction: A 60’s Love Story is set to premiere in Hollywood on November 3rd, 2015. LAE: Montreal-Based Post-Hardcore Act Issues “To Give You The Stars Above” Video Through Exclaim; Band Books First Show + Break The Clasp Deluxe 2xLP Preorders Available

lae-2015

Break The Clasp, the debut album from LAE — the Montreal-based psychedelic post-hardcore quintet fronted by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day — is now finally ready for release in its deluxe vinyl format. Alongside preorders for the massive 2xLP edition, an official video for the incredibly heartbreaking “To Give You The Stars Above” has been released through an exclusive premiere at Exclaim! Magazine. LAE will also play their very first live performance in early September.

The incredibly expansive torrent of emotions contained on LAE’s nearly hour-long Break The Clasp features standout performances from each member, the album recorded in full analog in main songwriter Marc Lucas Ablasou’s woodshop in Montreal by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day, who ended up providing lead vocals to the entire album, and the lineup completed by Ronald Jean-Gilles, Serge Nakauchi Pelletier and Stephane Desgroseilliers. Re-envisioning their original anthems penned under initial moniker LAE-TSEU in the mid-late 1990s alongside new songs, the band recorded live on vintage 1970s equipment utilizing a range of guitars, basses, drums, accordion, trumpet, saws, organs, pianos, electronics and a multitude of vocal styles into a four-part storyline of Life, Love, Hope and Death. The record was then mastered by Austin at his own Austin Enterprises (Converge, Burn The Priest/Lamb of God, Deadguy).

Of the thirteen songs Break The Clasp encapsulates, “To Give You The Stars Above” takes the emotive outpouring of LAE to the most inconsolably sad levels on record. Collecting a spread of joyous family film clips, the official video for the song creates a polar opposite vibe of the actual music, further accenting its despondent tones, culminating in an incredibly sad display of what Break The Clasp has to offer. The video was created by director David Hall of Handshake Inc. (Today Is The Day, Brutal Truth, Maryland Deathfest The Movie), who alongside the band, has issued a statement about the creation of the new video. Both statements are now running with an exclusive premiere of the video through Exclaim! Magazine.

View LAE’s “To Give You The Stars Above” video exclusively through Exclaim! now at THIS LOCATION.

Additionally, a new video for the track “Sister” is in the construction process for release in the coming weeks. The entire album is available for streaming RIGHT HERE.

The outfit will perform a set in their hometown of Montreal on September 5th, bringing the songs of Break The Clasp to a live audience for the first time. LAE / TODAY IS THE DAY Frontman Steve Austin Scores Hollywood Film, Addiction: A 60’s Love Story; Updates on LAE Vinyl And TODAY IS THE DAY Tour

Steve Austin-studio

Steve Austin, iconic frontman for visionary metal trio, TODAY IS THE DAY, and post-hardcore quintet, LAE, has completed his first full-on solo recording, in the form of an original score for the upcoming Hollywood release of Addiction: A 60’s Love Story.

Directed by Tate Steinseck (Face Off) and set for release through Breaking Glass Pictures, Addiction: A 60’s Love Story takes place in New York City, in 1968. A short synopsis; Max Bornstein had the wit, looks and charm that would carry him beyond the typical man’s troubles. He was untouchable… Yet the typical man’s troubles were the least of Max’s worries: He was a full-time dope fiend and a part-time father working within the underground, highly illegal pornography industry. The film stars Evanna Lynch (Harry Potter), Ian Harding (Pretty Little Liars), Carol Kane (Dog Day Afternoon), Ray Santiago (Ash Vs. Evil Dead), Michael Badalucco (O Brother Where Art Thou?) and more, with Steve Austin handling the original score as an associate producer.

Created at his own Austin Enterprise Studio — the origin of groundbreaking albums from Deadguy, Burn The Priest/Lamb Of God, Jello Biafra, in addition to TODAY IS THE DAY, and LAE — the iconic Steve Austin created a dark, afflicted, psychedelic soundtrack to match the film’s delivery. Additionally, several of Austin’s prior recordings were worked into the soundtrack. The song “Outlaw” from TODAY IS THE DAY’s tenth LP, Animal Mother, a psychedelic reworking of the title track to the band’s classic Temple Of The Morning Star LP, as well as the emotional “Broken Knee” ballad by Austin-fronted post-hardcore outfit, LAE, and their debut LP, Break The Clasp.

Issues Austin on the soundtrack, “Two years ago, my good friend Tate Steinseck asked me if I wanted to do the original score for this film; after reading the script, I immediately said yes! The film is set in the 1960s. Rather than go for a retro vibe, I set out to make a score for this film that could enhance the seedy, criminal vibe going on. Dirty, smoky jazz, psychedelic keyboards, and in general a vibe that makes you feel the duality of what the main character Max Bornstein, is going through. When I got the final cut of the film, I locked myself away in my studio and watched the film over and over again. The main character in the film struggles with normal family life and the dark side of drug addiction and selling illegal pornography. I was deeply affected by this film. For days, I felt like I had fallen into the dark and insane world that Max was living in back in the 1960s and 1970s. It’s a true story, that really hits hard.”

Addiction: A 60’s Love Story is set to premiere in Hollywood on November 3rd, 2015. View the film’s official trailer at Entertainment Tonight Online HERE, and the official IMDB listing for the movie HERE.

Break The Clasp, the debut LP from LAE — the Montreal-based psychedelic post-hardcore outfit which features Steve Austin on lead vocals and production/mastering — is finally nearing its availability on vinyl, following its CD and digital release in November. The incredibly expansive torrent of emotions contained on the nearly hour-long album features standout performances from each member, through the use of countless types of guitars and amplification, an arsenal of keyboards, organs, synths and pianos, trumpet, singing saw, accordion, electronics and more. The thirteen-track journey through Live, Hope, Love and Death now sees an incredible 2xLP release, pressed on two massive slabs of 180-gram black vinyl with poly-lined inner sleeves, a full-color gatefold cardboard outer sleeve with front and back spot varnish and free digital download. A co-released title with The Compound Recs. and Battleground Records, the vinyl version of Break The Clasp is now available for preorder via The Compound HERE and Battleground HERE.

THE COMPOUND & EARSPLIT DISTRO Update: GODHUNTER And AMIGO THE DEVIL, LAE, WINO & CONNY OCHS & More

earsplit-distro-compound-double

THE EARSPLIT COMPOUND continues to infiltrate the populous with quality non-mainstream music through its three subdivided branches of public propaganda — EARSPLIT PR, THE COMPOUND RECS, and EARSPLIT DISTRO — and here declares the latest actions on behalf of its label and mailorder sects for the first quarter of 2015. THE COMPOUND RECS methodically plots the deployment of new works from across the musical underworld through cult label sub-faction, THE COMPOUND RECS, including the new collaboration from GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL, the impending vinyl version of Break The Clasp from LAE, and much more. New and exclusive wares are also now available through EARSPLIT DISTRO, including preorders for the second collaborative LP from WINO & CONNY OCHS, as the only US outlet to purchase the vinyl edition of the album.

GODHUNTER-AMIGO front_print

Out as of Valentine’s Day is the new collaborative release from political sludge faction, GODHUNTER, and banjo-attacking murderfolk soloist, AMIGO THE DEVIL, a succinct but imposing two-song release capturing both bands in an entirely new approach. GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL PRESENTS: The Outer Dark leads off with a barren hymn, “Weeping Willow,” wrought with both beauty and sadness, ill-omened from the start. The video for the track, created by Frank Huang (Metal Injection’s Pit Full Of Shit), was recently premiered at popular rock underworld portal, The Obelisk RIGHT HERE. On the B-Side, a stark rendition of Nirvana’s iconic ballad, “Something In The Way” pays homage to the already bleak anthem, painted with the foreboding, southwestern Americana vibe of the collaboration, which was released in conjunction with GODHUNTER’s Battleground Records. Stream the entire 7” HERE.

Following its CD and digital release in November, Break The Clasp, from Montreal-based post-rock/hardcore outfit LAE — featuring lead vocalist Steve Austin from Today Is The Day — is now being constructed in its prime, intended format, with the vinyl edition now in the production process. With nearly fifty-three minutes of unearthly, heartbreaking, psychedelic audio artistry delivered in four segments — Life, Hope, Love, Death — fans of Three Mile Pilot, Pink Floyd, Swans, Sonic Youth, Unwound, Slint, Shellac, early Today Is The Day and more will be instantly hooked. Having restructured their original lineup and works forged in the Y2K era as LAE-TSU, this dynamic five-piece invited Steve Austin to produce the album, which landed him a seat as the band’s new lead vocalist. Recording in founding member Marc Ablasou’s wood shop, utilizing acoustic and electric guitars, trumpet, saws, organs, pianos, accordion and more to capture their debut full-length, Break The Clasp was captured on an arsenal of vintage analog equipment, mastered at Austin Enterprises and bearing artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label). Break The Clasp is out now on all digital platforms as well as eco-friendly, 6-panel, spot-varnish digipak CD, and a massive 180-gram gatefold double-LP will be available this late Spring/early Summer. Two videos for the album are also in construction. Stream Break The Clasp in its entirety and order the CD/digital RIGHT HERE. Vinyl preorders coming mid-March.

And as the anxiously anticipated second collaborative LP from American doom metal legend and solo artist, SCOTT “WINO” WEINRICH, and iconic German singer/songwriter, CONNY OCHS, entitled Freedom Conspiracy nears late March release via Germany’s Exile On Mainstream, EARSPLIT DISTRO has just posted preorder links to both the CD and LP version. Not only is our depot the ONLY outlet in the US from which to order the vinyl version, but the first fifteen preorders of the LP will also receive a FREE copy of CONNY OCHSSuiciety 7”, with two new songs and an outtake from the Raw Love Songs sessions, initially released to accompany Ochs’ November tour in November 2014 European tour with labelmates, Kristian Harting and Friedemann, limited to 300 copies worldwide. Recorded at Kabumm Studio with producer Thommy Krawallo, as was their Heavy Kingdom LP, the newest collection of ambitious, harrowing and beautiful music created by WINO & CONNY OCHS not only brings forth the same quality of organically conceived folk/rock fans of the previous album should expect, it simply excels in every imaginable aspect. Freedom Conspiracy’s approach is slightly different from Heavy Kingdom as it has been created in a much more organic way with rudimentary ideas brought in by each and then carved into songs by both together. Fusing acoustic and electric guitars and with both artists’ standout vocal styles searing through these thirteen well-crafted brand new hymns, the album delivers forty-five minutes of some of the most refined, dynamic and unforgettable folk/rock music in years. Fans of Woodie Guthrie, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Bob Dylan, The Black Crowes, Scott Kelly, Mike Scheidt and the like should make sure this duo is on your radar. Imported from Germany, the LP version of Freedom Conspiracy is pressed on 180-gram black vinyl in a reverse board sleeve with thermographic print and an extensive booklet, the CD packaged in a mini-gatefold with booklet and matt laminate varnish. Preorders can be placed in the US right HERE and internationally via Exile On Mainstream HERE.

LAE: Two New Videos From Break The Clasp And 2xLP Version Of Album Now In Production

lae [photo by Guillaume Nadeau]

Montreal’s psychedelic post-rock quintet, LAE, has put two brand new videos into construction for release over the coming months as the deluxe 2xLP version of their debut LP, Break The Clasp, is about to hit the pressing plant for an early Springtime release. A visual depiction of the diverse track, “Sister,” which features some of the heaviest moments on Break The Clasp and one of the few scathing deliveries from vocalist Steve Austin (Today Is The Day) on the album, has been commissioned to David Hall of Handshake Inc. (Brutal Truth, Today is the Day, Maryland Deathfest: the Movie). Additionally, the members of LAE are working on a video for the album’s magnificently heartbreaking “To Give You The Stars Above” anthem in-house.

Both new visual accompaniments to Break The Clasp will see release late this Winter or early Spring, just as LAE prepares to release the mammoth vinyl edition of the album, which is currently being readied for the pressing plant. The final details on the pressing are still being locked up, but both platters will be constructed of 180-gram or thicker heavyweight vinyl with a colored run, and will be housed in a double gatefold jacket with spot varnish on the front and back, with poly-lined black sleeves and a digital download card. Preorders for the 2xLP edition of Break The Clasp will be available in the coming weeks with a variety of package options.

Stream Break The Clasp in its entirety at THIS LOCATION.

Break The Clasp is out now on The Compound and Battleground Records. The six-panel, spot-varnished, eco-friendly digipak can be ordered HERE, the digital via BandCamp, iTunes , Google Play and more.

A monumentally dejected yet inspiring nearly hour-long psychedelic journey through thirteen dynamic movements, LAE’s Break The Clasp saw its initial digital and CD release at the end of November as a collaborative effort between The Compound Recs, Battleground Records and LAE themselves. Recorded in full analog in main songwriter Marc Lucas Ablasou’s woodshop in Montreal by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day and Austin Enterprises, who provided lead vocals to the entire album, the lineup is completed by Ronald Jean-Gilles, Serge Nakauchi Pelletier, Stephane Desgroseilliers. Re-envisioning their original anthems — penned under initial moniker LAE-TSEU in the mid-late 1990s — alongside new songs, the band recorded live on vintage 1970s equipment utilizing a range of guitars, basses, drums, accordion, trumpet, saws, organs, pianos, electronics and a multitude of vocal styles into a four-part storyline of life, love, hope and death. Following several overdub sessions at Austin Enterprises where the songs were mixed and mastered, the album was shrouded by otherworldly artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label), completing this transcendentally gloomy yet beautifully delivered opus.

LAE has also been intensely writing new material for their follow-up to Break The Clasp. Check out a photo set of the band in the frozen Montreal Winter on the band’s official Facebook page HERE.

“…the heart-on-sleeve frontman that Austin occasionally embodies is on full display here, with only snippets of backwoods dementia seeping through. And the band has created an ideal atmosphere, borrowing liberally from the likes of Slint and Tortoise with mesmeric rhythms and askew harmonies, while adding dollops of psych and the occasional metallic bombast that’s actually reminiscent of early TITD. 8/10” – Decibel Magazine

“The resultant record is a fragmentary, shifting record, switching between Slint-like passages of angular guitar and sung-spoken vocals and abrasive assaults (witness the caustic fuzz at the core of ‘Sister’), punctuated by acoustic sketches in the shape of ‘Broken Knee’, ‘Let Me Die In The Memory Of Her Arms’ and ‘Space Travel’…” – The Quietus

“…the vitality in the 13 tracks (yes, even the crushingly slow ones) is fresh to the point of its newness, and even the parts meant to be abrasive, opener ‘Sexy Sadie’ or pieces of ‘17 Queen’ for example, hold onto a wonderful depth the mix and a feeling of texture that feeds Break the Clasp’s otherworldly spirit and brings you along its path of consuming strangeness. Austin is a presence, but by no means the star, and the whole band Lae shines across Break the Clasp’s fascinating span. A debut no one knew they were awaiting, but they were.” – The Obelisk

“#22 (out of 100) album of 2014.” – Emoragei Magazine

“…echoes psychedelic progressive rock and post-rock but the overall picture is far more expansive… wholly unique and escapes categorization.” – American Aftermath

THE COMPOUND: New Release Update; LAE, DIE CHOKING, GODHUNTER / SECRETS OF THE SKY And More Out Now

The Compound-Fall 2014

Since its inception last year, Earsplit’s DIY label division, The Compound, has been painstakingly forging paths for our close allies, with our seventh official release now out on in the back-alleys of the planet.

Beginning with our maiden title, releasing ENABLER’s Flies EP on Samhain 2013, The Compound has since been responsible for GODHUNTER’s City Of Dust album and split GH/0ST:S LP with SECRETS OF THE SKY, COP PROBLEM’s Buried Beneath White Noise 7”, ENABLER’s La Fin Absolue Du Monde sophomore album (now being released by Century Media for Europe), DIE CHOKING’s self-titled debut 7” and II follow-up 7”, and most recently, the magnificent Break The Clasp debut album from LAE, featuring Steve Austin of Today Is The Day on lead vocals.

Check out the latest on our newest titles below and watch for more news as The Compound begins prepping new releases for 2015, including tunes from LAE, GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL, CLASSHOLE, VISE MASSACRE and much more.

LAE – Break The Clasp

Performing under their original moniker, LAE-TSEU, the outfit now known as LAE impacted the Quebec art and post-hardcore/emo/indie circuits in the apocalypse-ready Y2K era of the mid-1990s. In 2013, the band went through an incredible rebirth, completely re-envisioning their original songs with new life knowledge. To capture this soundtrack, the band contracted Steve Austin (Today Is The Day), flying him and an arsenal of gear from his Austin Enterprises from Maine to record in Ablasou’s wood shop, utilizing acoustic and electric guitars, trumpet, saws, multiple electric organs and pianos and more to capture their long-awaited full-length, fully recorded on an arsenal of vintage analog equipment. However, during the recording process, Austin ended up performing lead vocals to the entire album in addition to other musical contributions. Mastered at Austin Enterprises and enshrouded with artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label), LAE’s Break The Clasp encompasses nearly fifty-three minutes of unearthly, heartbreaking, psychedelic audio artistry delivered in four segments; Life, Hope, Love, Death. Fans of Three Mile Pilot, Pink Floyd, Swans, Sonic Youth, Unwound, Slint, Shellac, early Today Is The Day and more will be instantly hooked. Break The Clasp is out now on all digital platforms as well as eco-friendly, 6-panel, spot-varnish digipak CD, and a massive 180-gram gatefold 2xLP will be available in early 2015 as LAE begins to tour North America on the album. Stream Break The Clasp in its entirety and order the CD/digital RIGHT HERE.

DIE CHOKING – II

Philadelphia’s demolition trio, DIE CHOKING, shoved their second EP of hyperactive, earthmoving grind/thrash down the world’s collective throat, with II. Comprised of members previously/currently hailing from other acts Total Fucking Destruction, Cop Problem, Burden and more, the band follows up their self-titled debut EP with another five tracks in less than six minutes, the material swarming with even more enraged and psychotic songwriting, and more of an ominous powerviolence approach, while stepping things up in the songwriting department and delivery on all levels. II was recorded and mixed at Mark It Zero Studios with Dan O’Hare (Brutal Truth) and mastered by Brad Boatright (Tragedy, Baptists, Code Orange Kids) at Audiosiege. The first pressing limited to 300 copies on vibrant red 7” vinyl, enclosed in the 7” is a document that function’s as a real, personal Living Will, in the theme of the closing track, “Tonsil.” Check out the new video for “Tonsil” HERE and order The Compound’s exclusive mailorder edition limited to 30 copies with the Will printed on paper bag brown HERE.

GODHUNTER / SECRETS OF THE SKY – GH/0ST:S

On their 2014 Southwest US tour together, Tucson-based sludge metal bandits, GODHUNTER and Oakland’s cinematic doom outfit, SECRETS OF THE SKY, were selling a limited edition cassette version of a new split release entitled GH/0ST:S. On this combined effort, both bands showcase even further experimentation into each of their respective crafts, with forty minutes of material, including a crushing new opus from each band, as well as a haunting, thematic accompaniment bearing the “ghosts” theme. Through a joint effort with GODHUNTER’s Battleground Records, GH/0ST:S is now available digitally as well as on a killer 180-gram black/white vinyl swirl LP including a download card, limited to 300 copies. Stream all of GH/0ST:S and purchase the wax and digital HERE.

LAE: Debut Album By Montreal Psychedelic Post-Rock Troupe Featuring Steve Austin From Today Is The Day Streaming At The Quietus Break The Clasp Out Now Via The Compound/Battleground Records

LAE-band-layout

The official debut recordings from Montreal-based LAE are out this week in the form of the collective’s Break The Clasp full-length — a monumentally dejected yet inspiring nearly hour-long psychedelic journey through thirteen dynamic movements — and the entire record is now playing at prevalent online magazine, The Quietus.

LAE’s Break The Clasp was recorded in full analog in main songwriter Marc Lucas Ablasou’s woodshop in Montreal by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day and Austin Enterprises, who coincidentally ended up providing lead vocals to the entire album, bringing out some of the most heartfelt and non-violent verbal deliveries from the infamous frontman to date, making him a full-time member of the outfit, completed by Ronald Jean-Gilles, Serge Nakauchi Pelletier, Stephane Desgroseilliers. This crew of multi-instrumentalists envisioned the band’s original anthems, penned under initial moniker LAE-TSEU in the mid-late 1990s, and recreated them fully live on vintage equipment, utilizing a range of guitars, basses, drums, accordion, trumpet, saws, organs, pianos, electronics and a multitude of vocal styles into a four-part storyline of life, love, hope and death. Completed through several overdub sessions at Austin Enterprises where the final product was mixed and mastered, and embodied with uncanny artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label), Break The Clasp closes 2014 with an incredibly transcendentally gloomy yet beautifully delivered opus.

In honor of its release, UK-based online magazine, The Quietus, was pleased to host this exclusive stream of LAE’s long-awaited and hard-earned debut release. The site’s account of Break The Clasp breaks it down, including, “The resultant record is a fragmentary, shifting record, switching between Slint-like passages of angular guitar and sung-spoken vocals and abrasive assaults (witness the caustic fuzz at the core of ‘Sister’), punctuated by acoustic sketches in the shape of ‘Broken Knee’, ‘Let Me Die In The Memory Of Her Arms’ and ‘Space Travel’, and we’re hugely pleased to be able to host a full stream…”

A new gear feature on LAE’s Marc Lucas Ablasou’s main guitar setup is live at PureGrainAudio now RIGHT HERE, and an Albums We Like feature on drummer Serge Nakauchi Pelletier’s infatuation with the Bad Brains is live at No Echo HERE.

Break The Clasp is out this week through a collaborative effort between The Compound and Battleground Records. The six-panel, spot-varnished, eco-friendly digipak can be ordered HERE, and digitally via BandCamp, iTunes , Google Play and more. A gatefold 180-gram 2xLP is coming from the same union in early 2015 as LAE begins touring the East Coast of North America and beyond in support of the album.

“…echoes psychedelic progressive rock and post-rock but the overall picture is far more expansive… wholly unique and escapes categorization.” – American Aftermath

LAE: Decibel Magazine Premieres Title Track To Debut LP From Montreal Psychedelic Post-Hardcore Outfit Featuring Steve Austin From Today Is The Day

LAE-band-layout

Decibel Magazine’s high-traffic online body, The Deciblog, has exclusively premiered the title track to the debut record from Montreal, Quebec-based LAE, as the album nears its public street date, now less than two weeks away.

Over thirteen movements verging on an entire hour of superb, dynamic material encompasses LAE’s Break The Clasp LP, which was recorded in full analog in a woodshop in Montreal by Today Is The Day and Austin Enterprises founder, Steve Austin, who became enveloped by the songs as he produced them, which led to his permanent involvement in the band as the main vocalist. With one of the most disheartened but beautiful displays of psychedelic, post-hardcore/rock possibly ever captured to tape, Austin’s gritty, visionary vocal delivery and final mastering incredibly fits the structures created by creators Ronald Jean-Gilles, Serge Nakauchi Pelletier, Stephane Desgroseilliers and Marc Lucas Ablasou as if they were incepted with this purpose in mind, resulting in a true masterpiece of whatever genre one may attempt to categorize the songs into. The unearthly, heartbreaking artistry will attract fans of Three Mile Pilot, Swans, Sonic Youth, Unwound, Slint, Shellac and more, yet Break The Clasp remains an unfathomably original album unlike anything currently out there.

Decibel today releases “Break The Clasp” to the planet. The second track on the album of the same name showcases LAE’s varied nature, integrating electronics and guest backup vocals courtesy of the band’s friend, Christina Frances Musacchio into the layered song. The exclusive premiere of the song is joined by a detailed account of its origin from the band, and a stellar write-up of the track by the trusted scribe who took on the premiere, who issues, “Sit back, y’all. Steve Austin-affiliated psychedelic post-rockers LAE are about to take you to another plane of existence via the title track of the album Break the Clasp…”

“Break The Clasp” and unleash the song through the Deciblog portal now at THIS LOCATION.

Additionally, American Aftermath leaked the album’s “Sister” alongside an interview with band architect Marc Lucas Ablasou, RIGHT HERE, and a trailer for the album is playing HERE.

Break The Clasp will see release through The Compound and Battleground Records in a collaborative effort, with the initial CD and digital release set for November 25th. Preorders for the six-panel, spot-varnish adorned, eco-friendly digipak are live HERE, and preorders for the digital download — which includes an instant download of “Break The Clasp” are now live HERE. A deluxe, gatefold 180-gram double 12” LP is coming in early 2015 as LAE begins touring North America in support of the album.

Performing under LAE-TSEU, their original moniker, LAE impacted their local scene in the mid 1990s, yet life’s plan impeded them from taking off until now. In mid-2013, the band went through a rebirth, re-envisioning their original songs with new life knowledge and a ravenous hunger to make them better than ever. The band invited Steve Austin (Today Is The Day) to record in Ablasou’s wood shop, utilizing accordion, trumpet, saws, organs, pianos, electronics and more to capture their long-awaited full-length on vintage analog equipment. During the recording process, Austin ended up performing lead vocals to the album in addition to other musical contributions, becoming a full-fledged member of the band. Mastered at Austin Enterprises, the album features otherworldly artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label) and a layout by Kay and Dave Brenner.

LAE: American Aftermath Posts Single From Debut LP By Montreal-Based Post-Rock Outfit; CD Preorders Available

LAE-Marc

As Montreal-based post-rock quintet, LAE — featuring in its ranks Steve Austin of Today Is The Day — prepares to release its Break The Clasp debut this Autumn, the first single from the LP has been made available to the public through an exclusive premiere at American Aftermath.

The diverse track, “Sister,” shows both the beautiful, peaceful delivery and accessible elements this crew of fantastic songwriters display through the entire album. It also reveals the polar opposite second personality of LAE, as the clean guitars, organs and vocals give way to wounding, caustic vocals and massive-sounding electric guitar riffs thundering through the mix. “Sister” has been posted at American Aftermath, who extensively interrogates LAE’s founding songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Marc Lucas Ablasou, on the band’s storied history and why Break The Clasp was over two decades in the making, as well as quotes from Austin, who not only serves as the lead vocalist on the entire album, also fully recorded and produced Break The Clasp. The write-up issues of the track, “The song echoes psychedelic progressive rock and post-rock but the overall picture is far more expansive. The song, as well as the album in general, is wholly unique and escapes categorization.”

Take the ride and delve into the world of LAE with “Sister” and more RIGHT HERE.

A trailer for Break The Clasp with clips from several of the album’s thirteen tracks is also playing HERE.

Break The Clasp will see release through The Compound and Battleground Records via digital download and 6-panel digipak November 25th, and a deluxe 180-gram double LP in February 2015 as the band begins touring throughout North America. CD preorders are now available via Earsplit Distro HERE, and digital preorders via BandCamp will be made available on Halloween.
