LAE: Debut Album By Montreal Psychedelic Post-Rock Troupe Featuring Steve Austin From Today Is The Day Streaming At The Quietus Break The Clasp Out Now Via The Compound/Battleground Records

LAE-band-layout

The official debut recordings from Montreal-based LAE are out this week in the form of the collective’s Break The Clasp full-length — a monumentally dejected yet inspiring nearly hour-long psychedelic journey through thirteen dynamic movements — and the entire record is now playing at prevalent online magazine, The Quietus.

LAE’s Break The Clasp was recorded in full analog in main songwriter Marc Lucas Ablasou’s woodshop in Montreal by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day and Austin Enterprises, who coincidentally ended up providing lead vocals to the entire album, bringing out some of the most heartfelt and non-violent verbal deliveries from the infamous frontman to date, making him a full-time member of the outfit, completed by Ronald Jean-Gilles, Serge Nakauchi Pelletier, Stephane Desgroseilliers. This crew of multi-instrumentalists envisioned the band’s original anthems, penned under initial moniker LAE-TSEU in the mid-late 1990s, and recreated them fully live on vintage equipment, utilizing a range of guitars, basses, drums, accordion, trumpet, saws, organs, pianos, electronics and a multitude of vocal styles into a four-part storyline of life, love, hope and death. Completed through several overdub sessions at Austin Enterprises where the final product was mixed and mastered, and embodied with uncanny artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label), Break The Clasp closes 2014 with an incredibly transcendentally gloomy yet beautifully delivered opus.

In honor of its release, UK-based online magazine, The Quietus, was pleased to host this exclusive stream of LAE’s long-awaited and hard-earned debut release. The site’s account of Break The Clasp breaks it down, including, “The resultant record is a fragmentary, shifting record, switching between Slint-like passages of angular guitar and sung-spoken vocals and abrasive assaults (witness the caustic fuzz at the core of ‘Sister’), punctuated by acoustic sketches in the shape of ‘Broken Knee’, ‘Let Me Die In The Memory Of Her Arms’ and ‘Space Travel’, and we’re hugely pleased to be able to host a full stream…”

Listen to all of Break The Clasp now at THIS LOCATION.

A new gear feature on LAE’s Marc Lucas Ablasou’s main guitar setup is live at PureGrainAudio now RIGHT HERE, and an Albums We Like feature on drummer Serge Nakauchi Pelletier’s infatuation with the Bad Brains is live at No Echo HERE.

Break The Clasp is out this week through a collaborative effort between The Compound and Battleground Records. The six-panel, spot-varnished, eco-friendly digipak can be ordered HERE, and digitally via BandCamp, iTunes , Google Play and more. A gatefold 180-gram 2xLP is coming from the same union in early 2015 as LAE begins touring the East Coast of North America and beyond in support of the album.

“…the heart-on-sleeve frontman that Austin occasionally embodies is on full display here, with only snippets of backwoods dementia seeping through. And the band has created an ideal atmosphere, borrowing liberally from the likes of Slint and Tortoise with mesmeric rhythms and askew harmonies, while adding dollops of psych and the occasional metallic bombast that’s actually reminiscent of early TITD. 8/10” – Decibel Magazine

“…echoes psychedelic progressive rock and post-rock but the overall picture is far more expansive… wholly unique and escapes categorization.” – American Aftermath

LAE: Decibel Magazine Premieres Title Track To Debut LP From Montreal Psychedelic Post-Hardcore Outfit Featuring Steve Austin From Today Is The Day

LAE-band-layout

Decibel Magazine’s high-traffic online body, The Deciblog, has exclusively premiered the title track to the debut record from Montreal, Quebec-based LAE, as the album nears its public street date, now less than two weeks away.

Over thirteen movements verging on an entire hour of superb, dynamic material encompasses LAE’s Break The Clasp LP, which was recorded in full analog in a woodshop in Montreal by Today Is The Day and Austin Enterprises founder, Steve Austin, who became enveloped by the songs as he produced them, which led to his permanent involvement in the band as the main vocalist. With one of the most disheartened but beautiful displays of psychedelic, post-hardcore/rock possibly ever captured to tape, Austin’s gritty, visionary vocal delivery and final mastering incredibly fits the structures created by creators Ronald Jean-Gilles, Serge Nakauchi Pelletier, Stephane Desgroseilliers and Marc Lucas Ablasou as if they were incepted with this purpose in mind, resulting in a true masterpiece of whatever genre one may attempt to categorize the songs into. The unearthly, heartbreaking artistry will attract fans of Three Mile Pilot, Swans, Sonic Youth, Unwound, Slint, Shellac and more, yet Break The Clasp remains an unfathomably original album unlike anything currently out there.

Decibel today releases “Break The Clasp” to the planet. The second track on the album of the same name showcases LAE’s varied nature, integrating electronics and guest backup vocals courtesy of the band’s friend, Christina Frances Musacchio into the layered song. The exclusive premiere of the song is joined by a detailed account of its origin from the band, and a stellar write-up of the track by the trusted scribe who took on the premiere, who issues, “Sit back, y’all. Steve Austin-affiliated psychedelic post-rockers LAE are about to take you to another plane of existence via the title track of the album Break the Clasp…”

“Break The Clasp” and unleash the song through the Deciblog portal now at THIS LOCATION.

Additionally, American Aftermath leaked the album’s “Sister” alongside an interview with band architect Marc Lucas Ablasou, RIGHT HERE, and a trailer for the album is playing HERE.

Break The Clasp will see release through The Compound and Battleground Records in a collaborative effort, with the initial CD and digital release set for November 25th. Preorders for the six-panel, spot-varnish adorned, eco-friendly digipak are live HERE, and preorders for the digital download — which includes an instant download of “Break The Clasp” are now live HERE. A deluxe, gatefold 180-gram double 12” LP is coming in early 2015 as LAE begins touring North America in support of the album.

Performing under LAE-TSEU, their original moniker, LAE impacted their local scene in the mid 1990s, yet life’s plan impeded them from taking off until now. In mid-2013, the band went through a rebirth, re-envisioning their original songs with new life knowledge and a ravenous hunger to make them better than ever. The band invited Steve Austin (Today Is The Day) to record in Ablasou’s wood shop, utilizing accordion, trumpet, saws, organs, pianos, electronics and more to capture their long-awaited full-length on vintage analog equipment. During the recording process, Austin ended up performing lead vocals to the album in addition to other musical contributions, becoming a full-fledged member of the band. Mastered at Austin Enterprises, the album features otherworldly artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label) and a layout by Kay and Dave Brenner.

LAE: American Aftermath Posts Single From Debut LP By Montreal-Based Post-Rock Outfit; CD Preorders Available

LAE-Marc

As Montreal-based post-rock quintet, LAE — featuring in its ranks Steve Austin of Today Is The Day — prepares to release its Break The Clasp debut this Autumn, the first single from the LP has been made available to the public through an exclusive premiere at American Aftermath.

The diverse track, “Sister,” shows both the beautiful, peaceful delivery and accessible elements this crew of fantastic songwriters display through the entire album. It also reveals the polar opposite second personality of LAE, as the clean guitars, organs and vocals give way to wounding, caustic vocals and massive-sounding electric guitar riffs thundering through the mix. “Sister” has been posted at American Aftermath, who extensively interrogates LAE’s founding songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Marc Lucas Ablasou, on the band’s storied history and why Break The Clasp was over two decades in the making, as well as quotes from Austin, who not only serves as the lead vocalist on the entire album, also fully recorded and produced Break The Clasp. The write-up issues of the track, “The song echoes psychedelic progressive rock and post-rock but the overall picture is far more expansive. The song, as well as the album in general, is wholly unique and escapes categorization.”

Take the ride and delve into the world of LAE with “Sister” and more RIGHT HERE.

A trailer for Break The Clasp with clips from several of the album’s thirteen tracks is also playing HERE.

Break The Clasp will see release through The Compound and Battleground Records via digital download and 6-panel digipak November 25th, and a deluxe 180-gram double LP in February 2015 as the band begins touring throughout North America. CD preorders are now available via Earsplit Distro HERE, and digital preorders via BandCamp will be made available on Halloween.

Performing under their original moniker, LAE-TSEU, the outfit now known as LAE impacted the Quebec art and post-hardcore/emo/indie circuits in the apocalypse-ready Y2K era of the mid 1990s. In mid-2013, the band went through an incredible rebirth, completely re-envisioning their original songs with new life knowledge and a ravenous hunger to make them better than ever. To capture this soundtrack, the band contracted Steve Austin (Today Is The Day), flying him and an arsenal of gear from his Austin Enterprises from Maine to record in Ablasou’s wood shop, utilizing acoustic and electric guitars, trumpet, saws, multiple electric organs and pianos and more to capture their long-awaited full-length, fully recorded on an arsenal of vintage analog equipment. However, during the recording process, Austin ended up performing lead vocals to the entire album in addition to other musical contributions. Mastered at Austin Enterprises and enshrouded with artwork by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label), LAE’s Break The Clasp will finally see release. Encompassing nearly fifty-three minutes of unearthly, heartbreaking, psychedelic audio artistry, while fans of Three Mile Pilot, Swans, Sonic Youth, Unwound, Slint, Shellac and more will be instantly hooked by these tales of love, devotion and loss, Break The Clasp is an incredible experience, the record unfathomably original and unlike anything you’ll experience this year.

DIE CHOKING: Tour With Fantasy Panther Begins With II Record Release Show This Friday

Die choking promo

This week, DIE CHOKING embarks on their headlining ten-city tour, beginning with their hometown record release show this week.

The release show for their blazing second EP, II, will see DIE CHOKING joining Pyrrhon, Artificial Brain and Fantasy Panther this Friday, October 17th on their Philadelphia home turf, followed by another solid week of shows in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin and Tennessee with Fantasy Panther. DC has two additional shows in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Montclair, New Jersey on their way home after FP drops off following the Knoxville gig. DIE CHOKING will be toting a brand new shirt design from Japanese artist ToK which will be available in special bundles with the new II 7” on this trek.

II is out now on blazing opaque red wax via The Compound and digitally direct through the band. Included in the package is a special document serving as a Living Will created by DIE CHOKING in conjunction with the theme of the EP’s closing track, “Tonsil,” the Will printed on several random color schemes, including a special version only available on the tour and a mailorder-exclusive version of only thirty copies available via The Compound/Earsplit Distro HERE.

Philly’s hyperthrash tyrants, DIE CHOKING returned to Mark It Zero Studios earlier this year, recording II with Dan O’Hare (Brutal Truth) in only one day and the vocals in another, the material then mastered by Brad Boatright at AudioSiege (Baptists, Code Orange Kids, Integrity) and fitted with graphics by Jeffrey V. Daniels. Featuring a former member of Total Fucking Destruction and current members of Cop Problem and Burden, DIE CHOKING’s hyperactive grind/thrash resounds with an even darker powerviolence edge than their self-titled EP, fueled with even more speed and vehemence, and the perfect bait to lure in diehard seekers of earthmoving brutality citing Wormrot, Brutal Truth, Human Remains, Magrudergrind and Noisear. Unleash this torrent of savagery via Decibel RIGHT HERE.

LAE: Montreal Act Confirms Details Of Debut Album Set For Release Via The Compound/Battleground

laetseu

The final details are being aligned for Break The Clasp, the otherworldly debut album from Montreal-based psychedelic post-rock artisans, LAE, to finally see its release this Autumn, as the eclectic outfit undergoes an absolute rebirth.

Performing as LAE-TSEU, their initial moniker, the outfit initially impacted the Quebec art and post-hardcore/emo/indie circuits in the apocalypse-ready Y2K era of the mid 1990s, having set out to distance themselves from the established conventions of rock music as well as the trappings of the various alternative subgenres. However, after carving an excellent name for themselves regionally, and as they prepared to record their debut album, the band dissolved, with several members’ lifestyles beginning to rot away at the rest of the band, professionally and personally.

In mid-2013, having restructured the lineup and dropping half of their previous band name, LAE emerged from the unfortunate ashes of what transpired two decades ago, completely re-envisioning the songs with new life knowledge and a ravenous hunger to make them better than ever. To capture this soundtrack, bassist, Ronald Jean-Gilles, drummer Serge Nakauchi Pelletier, and guitarists Stephane Desgroseilliers and Marc Lucas Ablasou contracted Steve Austin (Today Is The Day), flying him and an arsenal of gear from his Austin Enterprises from Maine to record in Ablasou’s wood shop/warehouse. Here, the five musicians utilized acoustic and electric guitars, trumpet, saws, multiple electric organs and pianos and more to capture their long-awaited full-length, Break The Clasp in full analog on vintage gear. However, as Austin became immersed in the recordings, eventually his producer duties shifted to more instinctive musician sense, and in the end, Austin ended up performing lead vocals to the entire album in addition to other musical contributions.

After being mastered at Austin Enterprises back in Maine, and being fitted with imaginative cover art crafted by the band’s longtime cohort Sonny Kay (The VSS, Gold Standard Laboratories label), LAE’s Break The Clasp will finally see its birth this Autumn. Encompassing nearly fifty-three minutes of unclassifiable, unearthly, heartbreaking psychedelic audio artistry, while fans of Three Mile Pilot, Swans, Sonic Youth, Unwound, Slint, Shellac and more will be instantly hooked by these tales of love, devotion and loss, Break The Clasp is an incredible experience, the record unfathomably original and unlike anything accessible on this planet.

Issues LAE in a collective statement on their album finally coming to fruition: “This project really started from Marc’s brains. This accumulation of song ideas and sounds just needed to come out and somehow be archived once and for all. That was the ultimate goal. To do so, Marc basically recruited the only three people that can actually understand him musically, no joke. We then had a band, one reminiscent of the one we were all part of at some point in the ‘90s. Adding Steve Austin to the mix was quite the experiment. Luckily for us, the timing couldn’t have been better as Steve got involved with this project in ways we never would’ve expected. Not only has he become the lead singer, but more importantly a very good friend. This album was recorded over a week during the summer of 2013; heck, the drums were recorded over the course of a day and half! With all its imperfections and whatnot, we are very pleased and humbled to team up with the good people at The Compound and Battleground Records for the release of Break The Clasp, our first album.”

Break The Clasp will be issued through a collaborative release between DIY labels The Compound and Battleground Records. The digital download and 6-panel digipak will be available on November 25th, 2014, and a massive 180-gram double LP in February 2015 as the band begins touring throughout North America. Preorders, singles from the album and more will be made available in the coming days.

GODHUNTER & AMIGO THE DEVIL Present Collaborative 7-Inch EP For Black Friday

godhunter-amigo

As Tucson’s GODHUNTER takes their confrontational auditory demolition back out on the road this week for a twelve-city West Coast run with Sorxe, the band announces yet another new set of recordings destined to see release this Fall.

After the release of their debut album, City Of Dust and the more recent GH/0ST:S split LP with Oakland’s Secrets Of The Sky both released this year, GODHUNTER now announces a collaborative EP with Miami-based AMIGO THE DEVIL. While all of GODHUNTER’s 2014 releases have shown their generally crushing sludge/crust-influenced hardcore grooves giving way to more ethereal, organic rock influences, expanding the use of keys and acoustic instruments, the newly completed collaboration presents an incredible new sound completely. The charismatic murderfolk of AMIGO THE DEVIL, currently calling Miami, Florida home, features the soulful vocals and Americana-based anthems of one Danny Kiranos, who here unites with GODHUNTER, who provides virtually all instrumentation on these two incredibly accessible, somber and beautiful yet ominous tracks. The collaboration, The Outer Dark, includes one original tune, “Weeping Willow,” paired with an awesome cover of Nirvana’s “Something In The Way” on the B-side.

As with City Of Dust and GH/0ST:S, The Outer Dark will see release through a union of GODHUNTER-co-owned Battleground Records and Earsplit’s label The Compound, who will release the album on 7” vinyl on Black Friday, November 28th. Preorders audio from the release and more will be released in the near future. Nearly all of GODHUNTER’s prior releases are available via The Compound HERE.

Later this month, both bands will perform at Southwest Terror Fest III: The Western Front — the massive Tucson-based musical gathering co-created by members of GODHUNTER among others — with GODHUNTER performing at the Rialto Theatre on Saturday, October 17th with Eagle Twin, Pelican and Goatsnake, and AMIGO THE DEVIL performing sporadically and randomly at both The Rialto Theatre and the nearby The District Tavern over the entire four-day event. Leading up to the fest, GODHUNTER will torch the West Coast alongside Phoenix-based Sorxe, the tour beginning this Thursday, October 2nd. Both bands will perform at the two-day Lucifest II with Demon Lung, Reproacher, Secrets of the Sky and others, and will join the likes of Graves At Sea and more along the way before closing the tour down at SWTF.

Stream all of GH/0ST:S via Revolver HERE, and check out a recent video interview with GODHUNTER right HERE.

ENABLER Signs With Century Media; La Fin Absolue Du Monde To Get Official European Issue

enblrtcl-80_web [photo by Luke Mouradian]

Following the initial release of ENABLER’s acclaimed second LP, La Fin Absolue Du Monde — which hit the streets in May via an alliance between The Compound and Creator-Destructor — the album will now see an official European release through Century Media, as the band has officially signed with the label.

Issued ENABLER’s founding guitarist/vocalist Jeffrey Lohrber of the union with Century Media: “I couldn’t be happier for all of this to come together. We’ve had a lot of good people working behind us for years, friends who have lived through the blood, sweat, and tears with myself and the multitude of extremely talented musicians who have shared the stage playing in ENABLER. Myself and the musicians who share this with me are going to take this to the next level. The best is yet to come.”

We at The Earsplit Compound are stoked to see our close allies in ENABLER get hooked up with an amazing worldwide deal with a label like Century Media and can’t wait to see them remove many faces live and on record through the New Year.

While European fans await the Century Media reissue of the album, those based in North America can order La Fin Absolue Du Monde now, the first pressing of the LP version from The Compound available on black/white/Orange Crush splatter, limited to 250 copies, in a wide-spine, uncoated jacket with a digital download code included, the CD housed in a high-quality, six-panel digipak. Additionally, The Compound released ENABLER’s previous Flies EP, which is also still available on digipak CD (for a mere $5) and on limited import 12” LP courtesy of a licensing deal with London’s Holy Roar Records. Order all physical versions of both releases HERE.

GODHUNTER / SECRETS OF THE SKY: Digital Version Of GH/0ST:S Split LP Out Today + Now Playing At Revolver Magazine

GHOSTSwebcoverLP

GH/0ST:S, the split album between Tucson’s politically-motivated sludgecore instigators, GODHUNTER, and Oakland’s creators of cinematic, engulfing doom metal, SECRETS OF THE SKY, is now available to the public for digital consumption.

A collaboratively-released effort between GODHUNTER’s own Battleground Records and Earsplit’s label, The Compound, GH/0ST:S bears nearly thirty-five minutes of brand new material, each leading off with a mammoth original track and followed by a more serene and experimental track bearing the “ghosts” theme. GODHUNTER’s A-side tracks were recorded and mixed by Ryan Bram at Homewrecker Studios, and SECRETS OF THE SKY’s B-side tunes recorded and mixed by Juan Urteaga at Trident Studios, after which the entire release was mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. Following its limited edition cassette release for their Southwestern tour together this Spring, GH/0ST:S will see a deluxe LP release on September 30th — the wax unexpectedly missing its initial release today due to being delayed in manufacturing — pressed on 180-gram black/white swirl wax in a run of 300 copies each including a digital download. But the digital release is today available for purchase via Bandcamp, and to help celebrate, Revolver Magazine is hosting an exclusive stream of the entire LP.

Let GH/0ST:S engulf you courtesy of Revolver at THIS LOCATION.

Digital orders for GH/0ST:S can be placed HERE and the vinyl preordered HERE.

Both GODHUNTER and SECRETS OF THE SKY are confirmed to perform at Salt Lake City-based LuciFest, also joining Demon Lung, Reproacher, Sorxe and more, the first weekend of October. Two weeks later, both bands will also take part in Southwest Terror Fest III: The Western Front; GODHUNTER taking the stage on Friday, October 17th with Goatsnake, Pelican and Eagle Twin, and SECRETS OF THE SKY the following evening with Primitive Man, North and Windmill Of Corpses. GODHUNTER will bridge both performances as part of a twelve-date tour with Phoenix-based Sorxe.

DIE CHOKING: Noisey Debuts Brand New Burner From Philly Hypershredders

die-choking-band-by Dante Torrieri

As Philadelphia’s hypershred-grinders, DIE CHOKING, prep their second 7” for public infiltration this September, today Noisey breaks off the first chunk off of the EP and rams it into humanity’s collective jugular.

“Non-Yielder” leads-off DIE CHOKING’s II EP, a song the band created in retaliation to mankind’s self-serving, egocentric ways, and a nonflexible outcry to never give up against the suffocating amount of bullshit we’re dealt each day. The fifty-one second destroyer features guest vocals by Steve Jansson from Trench Rot/Unrest, and just like its lyrical intent, yields for absolutely nothing.

Unload “Non-Yielder” at Vice Magazine’s music joint, Noisey, RIGHT HERE.

DIE CHOKING’s hyperactive, earthmoving grind/thrash penetrates with an even darker powerviolence edge on their latest EP, II, discharging five songs in less than six minutes, recorded and mixed at Mark It Zero Studios with Dan O’Hare (Brutal Truth) as with its predecessor. After harnessing the music in one day and all vocals in another the material was mastered by Brad Boatright (Baptists, Code Orange Kids) at AudioSiege. The vinyl version of II will be joined by a document that will function as a real, personal living will, in the theme of the closing track, “Tonsil.”

II will see parole on September 29th via The Compound and DIE CHOKING; preorders for the virgin red vinyl 7” can be placed HERE.

With new live actions continually being announced, this Saturday August 16th, DIE CHOKING will take part in Really Awesome Super Fun Fest in Wilmington, Delaware. The band has also locked a hometown record release show for II on October 17th with Pyrrhon, Artificial Brain and Fantasy Panther. This show will begin a week-long DIE CHOKING and Fantasy Panther tour.
