SECRETS OF THE SKY: Immense Track From Split LP With GODHUNTER Now Streaming At MetalSucks

“The Star” — the prime track leading off the SECRETS OF THE SKY-owned B-side of the GH/0ST:S LP, the band’s impending split album with GODHUNTER — is now playing through an exclusive premiere at MetalSucks.

Featuring the newest recordings from the Oakland, California-based cinematic doom metal outfit since their acclaimed 2013-releaed debut full-length, To Sail Black Waters, the SECRETS OF THE SKY-owned B-side of the LP, leads off with “The Star.” The nearly seven-minute opus picking up directly where the album left off boasts the band’s gargantuan doom metal riffage and spacious, otherworldly atmospheres, slickly delivered with impeccably tunderous production, the result of the band’s return to Trident Studios with engineer Juan Urteaga (Testament, Machine Head, Cattle Decapitation), who recorded both of the band’s works. MetalSucks, who issued massive praise of To Sail Black Waters, including multiple best-of 2013 lists, is now hosting an exclusive stream of the massive track, stating, “GODHUNTER and SECRETS OF THE SKY are very different bands, but they provide the perfect foil for one another, the yin and yang, GODHUNTER’s stoney, sludged out riffs balanced out by SECRETS OF THE SKY’s delicate splendor,” and confirming that “The Star” is, “as fantastic as anything the band’s ever done.”

GH/0ST:S brings nearly thirty-five minutes of new material into existence, with GODHUNTER’s side recorded and mixed by Ryan Bram at Homewrecker Studios, and SECRETS OF THE SKY’s recorded and mixed by Juan Urteagaat Trident Studios, and the full release mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. The album showcases some of the most expansive new material from both bands, with both acts’ contributing a massive lead track as well as an extensive ethereal/experimental track bearing the GH/0ST:S theme. Following its limited edition cassette release for their Southwestern tour together this Spring, GH/0ST:S will see a deluxe LP release through a joint effort between GODHUNTER’s Battleground Records and Earsplit’s THE COMPOUND RECS on September 9th, pressed on black/white swirl 180-gram wax in a run of 300 copies including a digital download. Both SECRETS OF THE SKY and GODHUNTER are confirmed to perform at LuciFest II in Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as Southwest Terror Fest III this October. The two-day second installment of LuciFest, consuming October 3rd and 4th and featuring bands from Utah, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, will see both acts performing the second night with Demon Lung, xDoperunnerx, Reproacher, Hummingbird of Death, Sorxe and more. Two weeks later, they hit the crushing Southwest Terror Fest III: The Western Front, the fest co-created by members of GODHUNTER and other local acts and set to engulf Tucson for four days, from Thursday, October 16th through Sunday the 19th. Here, SECRETS OF THE SKY will share the stage with Primitive Man, North and Windmill of Corpses, and GODHUNTER will support Goatsnake, Pelican and Eagle Twin. Neurosis, Sunn O))), -16-, The Atlas Moth, Baptists, Obliterations and tons more will also perform at the four-day, two-venue gathering.

Following SWTF III, SECRETS OF THE SKY will return to Trident Studios this to record their sophomore LP to be completed for release in early 2015. Stay tuned.

DIE CHOKING: Noisey Debuts Brand New Burner From Philly Hypershredders

As Philadelphia’s hypershred-grinders, DIE CHOKING, prep their second 7” for public infiltration this September, today Noisey breaks off the first chunk off of the EP and rams it into humanity’s collective jugular.

“Non-Yielder” leads-off DIE CHOKING’s II EP, a song the band created in retaliation to mankind’s self-serving, egocentric ways, and a nonflexible outcry to never give up against the suffocating amount of bullshit we’re dealt each day. The fifty-one second destroyer features guest vocals by Steve Jansson from Trench Rot/Unrest, and just like its lyrical intent, yields for absolutely nothing.

DIE CHOKING’s hyperactive, earthmoving grind/thrash penetrates with an even darker powerviolence edge on their latest EP, II, discharging five songs in less than six minutes, recorded and mixed at Mark It Zero Studios with Dan O’Hare (Brutal Truth) as with its predecessor. After harnessing the music in one day and all vocals in another the material was mastered by Brad Boatright (Baptists, Code Orange Kids) at AudioSiege. The vinyl version of II will be joined by a document that will function as a real, personal living will, in the theme of the closing track, “Tonsil.”

II will see parole on September 29th via The Compound and DIE CHOKING; preorders for the virgin red vinyl 7” can be placed HERE.

With new live actions continually being announced, this Saturday August 16th, DIE CHOKING will take part in Really Awesome Super Fun Fest in Wilmington, Delaware. DIE CHOKING Announces New August Tour Dates; Preorders For Incoming Second 7-Inch Posted

While their second 7” EP to be issued this September, Philadelphia’s sonic contortionists, DIE CHOKING, have already begun infiltrating the masses with the material from II. Their hyperspeed set packs all five tracks from II, as well as their self-titled debut 7” into a relentless thirteen minutes or less, leaving audiences in a whiplashed daze.

The live inundation continues this week, as DIE CHOKING returns to NYC this weekend to rage alongside Aussie grind maniacs, King Parrot, this Sunday, August 10th in Brooklyn. The next day they raid Baltimore, Maryland for the Philly Crust Invasion with Alement, Repellers and Rukut, followed by a hometown gig three days later. Next Saturday, August 16th, DIE CHOKING joins the growing itinerary of bands now including Sete Star Sept from Japan and Tercer Mundo from Mexico to play at Really Awesome Super Fun Fest in Wilmington, Delaware. The band has also locked a hometown record release show for II on October 17th, the brutalizing lineup also including NYC death metal experimenters Pyrrhon (Relapse), and Artificial Brain (Profound Lore), as well as ex-An Albatross-formed act, Fantasy Panther. This show will begin a week-long DIE CHOKING and Fantasy Panther tour, including V.O.S Fest in Kutztown, Pennsylvania the next day, with the remainder of the dates being confirmed now.

GODHUNTER: Invisible Oranges Lets Loose Opening Track From Split LP With SECRETS OF THE SKY

“Pursuit/Predator,” GODHUNTER’s latest plodding and antagonizing anthem and the lead track to the band’s upcoming GH/0ST:S split LP with SECRETS OF THE SKY, is now playing a month ahead of the album’s release at Invisible Oranges.

The GH/0ST:S LP showcases some of the most expansive new material from both bands, with both acts’ latest contributions including some of their more ethereal works, as well as some of their most savage and homicidal lyrical persuasions. Opening the GODHUNTER-dominated A-side of the LP, the Tucson-based sludge metal act forms rifts in the land with the seven-minute “Pursuit/Predator.” Reanimating the lineage of the infamous Zodiac Killer, a feedback-soaked intro leads into an acrid, dirge-ridden execution anthem, and after leveling everything for most of the song’s duration, a bellowing gang-chant atop an organic bed of acoustic guitars and mournful string elements bring the track to a smoldering finale. Invisible Oranges issues on the track, “’Pursuit/Predator’ documents a harsh dose of reality, but the presentation is ever so inviting. Guitarists David Rodgers and Jake Brazelton and bassist Dick Williamson combine to form a massive, world-swallowing tone. Drummer Andy Kratzenberg propels the song with a steady swing and ably brings the group’s punk influences to the surface when the jolt is needed. Singer Charlie Touseull has that bellow which will always be imitated in showers and cars. And wildcard Matthew Davis adds a nice touch of cello to the acoustic outro. In the end, it pulls off the neat trick of all solid sludge, making violence and anguish feel so good.”
